Take Back Our Pavements

A peaceful resident-led campaign for safety, access and fairness

The Take Back Our Pavements campaign is organised by the North Shottery Residents Association (NSRA). It is a lawful, peaceful protest launched as a last resort after many months of discussions failed to bring about meaningful change to pavement access and pedestrian safety issues affecting residents.

At peak times, many residents feel unable to safely leave or access their own homes due to congestion and pavement obstruction. This campaign exists to highlight that reality and to secure agreement that change is needed.

Why we are taking action

Since forming in September 2024, residents have held numerous discussions and submitted multiple proposals to the school and councils. Despite this, agencies involved remain content with the current arrangements.

Residents believe this prioritises the convenience of vehicles over pedestrian safety and places the welfare of a small number of students above the amenity of an entire residential community.

With no acknowledgement that the situation is unacceptable, residents felt they had no choice but to take peaceful, visible action.

What we are asking for

We are calling on the school, Warwickshire County Council, Stratford-on-Avon District Council and Stratford-upon-Avon Town Council to:

  • Acknowledge that the current situation is unacceptable
  • Agree that change is needed
  • Commit to urgent discussions with residents
  • Set a clear timetable for safer, fairer arrangements

The protest will continue until such a commitment is secured.

“History tells us that unless protest happens, nothing will change.”
