The NSRA committee met on 3 March to review progress on key issues affecting North Shottery.
School Traffic & Highways
Discussions continue with Stratford Girls’ Grammar School, Warwickshire County Council and the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust (SBT) about easing congestion. SBT may be open to exploring use of their car park or coach park for school drop‑off/pick‑up. A pedestrian crossing at Church Lane could be funded through Shottery’s Section 106 money. Residents are encouraged to keep pressing SGGS for action.
Traffic & Road Safety
- Double yellow line works remain with contractors but are progressing.
- Any change to school coach routes will require new contracts before September 2026.
- Options such as splitting coach routes (e.g., Railway Station / Birthplace Trust) are being explored.
- Alcester Road roundabout completion expected May–Summer 2026.
- Bollards, temporary traffic lights and a potential chicane remain under discussion.
- NSRA is seeking clarity on councillor delegated budgets for local improvements.
Traffic Counter Strips
New strips on Church Lane have appeared; NSRA is asking County for confirmation of who installed them and why.
Village Green
The committee is considering applying for Local Green Space and/or Asset of Community Value status to protect the green. This would ensure any proposed changes are properly scrutinised. The oak tree’s protection status is being checked.
“Take Back Our Pavements”
Following strong press coverage, protests will continue on random dates (Police will be notified). Members will receive dates by email. Residents are also encouraged to meet local councillors at The Bell on Saturday 21 March, 11am.
Other Updates
- The Ombudsman has assigned an investigator to NSRA’s complaint.
- A drone film of traffic issues has been produced for circulation.
- NSRA will request councillor contact lists and promote the NSRA website more widely.
